As soon as I opened this video, the first gripe I had with it is that I shot vertically rather than horizontally. This minor detail takes a good bit away from the professionalism and visuals of the assignment, as it is clear it was recorded on a mobile device. Something I was surprised to hear looking back at this assignment was the full range of motion it has in its script. There are little lapses in knowledge or flow of thought, traversing through key terms, personal experiences, and in depth analysis with little guessing room in between. Rather, this analysis gives more areas for conceptual questioning and further connections to any audience. Bringing my own business perspective to this discussion presents a fresh take on the paradox, understanding that media and business are growing further intertwined and critical of each other.
Seeing that I finally realized how unprofessional the portrait camera was and making the switch to filming landscape shows how growth has been made in my own production of media. The biggest mistake made right off the bat was that I didn't introduce myself, rather my topic. My ability to harvest more attention may be reflected by more than double the views through a more interesting title. The content overall is more organized on all levels, from a structured outline script in the video to a linked description that has time stamps for the major points of discussion. This allows viewers to easily comb through the video without missing major points or missing major concepts. A more appropriate description could have had a synopsis of my analysis and a thumbnail could have been used to draw in more users. Overall, the audio is a little less quality, but the depth in analysis makes up for any technical errors or shortcomings. My ability to describe scenes allows audiences that haven't seen the advertisement to take part in the analysis and for those who have seen it can clearly understand what I am talking about. Overall media analysis and audience interaction is more in depth in this assignment, leaving very few topics unattended or unfinished.
Media Scholars Ad Although simple, this assignment is one of my favorites in all of the program. This advertisement allowed our group to use a common media cultural frame to direct an audience on how to perceive our subject. This is the first assignment that we not only grasped media use and manipulation, but put it into action. The advertisement on the right uses a Totemism frame, highlighting that media makes individuals part of something bigger than themselves and crafts and environment of community. Colorful artwork with interactive elements makes the underlying message more covert than black text on a white background. This assignment shows more growth off the page than on, as we harvested enough knowledge about a concept to craft our own representation of the school of thought.
